What is the leptospirosis vaccine?

Posted on by admin

The leptospirosis vaccine helps preventing puppies/dogs(6 weeks+) from leptospirosis caused by bacteria called Leptospira canicola, L. grippotyphosa, L. icterohaemorrhagiae, and L. pomona. They are present in urine of wildlife (skunk, raccoon, rat, etc.) and transmitted to dogs that sniff the urine or drink water which may contain the bacteria. The infection can damage the kidney and liver, can be fatal in susceptible individuals. Symptoms may include fever, weakness, stiffness, anorexia, increased drinking and urination, and more.
